Melting, I’m melting!
Or, so said the Wicked Witch of the West when she was doused with water.
Seems like Mother Earth has joined the coven. Melting of sea ice in the Arctic has abruptly surpassed all of the predictions offered by the International Panel on Climate Change as recently as last April.

Sea ice has reached its lowest-ever observed level and the Northwest Passage is clear of ice. The Northeast Passage (which runs above Russia) may well clear out for the first time in recorded history as well.
At the current melt-rate, the Arctic could be devoid of sea ice by 2030. Read all about it here.
