Why I’m running for commish

I’m running for commish because our community and our planet are facing some very difficult times.

As environmental educator David Orr told me last fall, optimism in the face of the looming crisis is unsupported by the facts and pessimism, while rational, is unproductive. The only useful response is to hope for heroes. To hope that our ability to rise to meet life-threatening challenges will inspire people to undertake heroic efforts. My hope is that I can help lead this community to true sustainability, by offering innovative ideas and by listening to those who know far more than I do about specific solutions.

My Web site includes links to my position on numerous issues: people, the economy, the environment, land use, the legal system and the war. My platform will be posted soon.

If you’d like to help a grassroots candidate work for real change in Buncombe, I need 4,000 contributors to pitch in ten bucks apiece. Together we can create a sustainable community that will work for today’s citizens and their children. Thanks.
